Project transparency

A private tool, explained without vague promises.

ConvertAudio is an independent web project created and maintained by the ConvertAudio team. It is designed to solve one task—extracting audio from your own videos—with a clear interface and without sending the file to a conversion server.

Why it exists

Many converters require personal files to be uploaded to infrastructure the user does not control. ConvertAudio takes a different approach: it downloads a media engine into the browser and processes the video there. This is useful for family recordings, classes, meetings and work videos you do not want to transfer to an external service.

How it works

After you choose a file, JavaScript reads its duration and FFmpeg WebAssembly performs the conversion in device memory. ConvertAudio does not receive the video or output audio. The browser only requests application components, consented analytics and, where applicable, advertising resources.

What we check

  • MP4, MOV, WEBM and M4V inputs with common audio tracks.
  • MP3, M4A/AAC and 16-bit PCM WAV output.
  • Use in current desktop and mobile browsers.
  • Estimated output size before conversion.
  • Specific messages for low memory and incompatible tracks.

Real limitations

Compatibility depends on the internal codec, not only the extension. Long videos consume substantial memory, and a phone may close the tab even below the technical limit. Size estimates are not exact either: metadata, sample rate and encoding details can change the final result.

Editorial standard

Our guides address tasks that can be completed with the tool. They include reproducible steps, calculated examples, compatibility warnings and original screenshots. We do not create pages solely to repeat keywords, and we do not recommend processing unauthorized content.

Privacy and measurement

Files are not stored or included in analytics. Cloudflare Web Analytics provides aggregate navigation data. Google AdSense and its consent platform manage ads and preferences when available. Full details are in the privacy policy.
