CLEAR FACTS BEFORE YOU CONVERT
These are the converter's actual operating conditions, so you can choose the right output and avoid unnecessary retries.
We accept MP4, MOV, WEBM and M4V files. A supported extension does not guarantee compatibility: the file must contain an audio track the engine can read. Common AAC, MP3, Opus and Vorbis combinations usually work.
The technical limit is 1 GB and we recommend staying below 500 MB. Processing happens in memory, so a phone may reach its limit before a computer. Shortening a long video first reduces both time and memory use.
ConvertAudio is designed for current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Keep Safari open on iPhone or iPad; on older computers, close memory-heavy tabs during conversion.
MP3 uses your selected bitrate and offers broad compatibility. M4A uses AAC to save space. WAV uses uncompressed 16-bit PCM and therefore produces much larger files.
After you choose a video, we estimate the output size from its duration and selected bitrate. The final result can vary because of metadata, sample rate and source characteristics.
PRACTICAL EXAMPLES
Start with your situation, choose a sensible setup and see roughly how large the result would be.
For a voice-focused class, 128 kbps keeps speech clear while making the audio easier to store or share.
Keep only the conversation so you can play it as audio instead of storing a much larger video copy.
M4A provides good quality in a compact file when you want to keep the narration from a demo or presentation.
192 kbps balances clarity and size when reviewing interviews, testimonials or spoken notes recorded on camera.
WAV is much larger, but it avoids adding another lossy step before noise cleanup, cutting or mixing.
For a mostly spoken conference or session, 128 kbps M4A greatly reduces size without requiring music-grade quality.
Sizes are approximate and can vary slightly because of metadata and source characteristics.

192 kbps is a good balance. Use 320 kbps for more detail or 128 kbps for a smaller file.
You can convert MP4, MOV, WEBM and M4V videos to MP3, M4A or WAV. Final compatibility also depends on the codecs inside the file.

Conversion uses your device resources. Processing time depends on the video size, format and device speed.
